The phrase mommy makeover shows up in more and more advertisements and more and more cosmetic surgery web sites. So what is it? Basically it is a combination of procedures and treatments that aim to help a woman return her shape or get her body back similarly to what it was prior to her having children. A woman’s body goes through many changes throughout pregnancy and with childbirth. How her body bounces back from that can depend upon many factors including age and genetics.

In most cases a mommy makeover involves a surgical breast procedure and an abdominal procedure. Depending upon the individual patient, the breast procedure is often an augmentation and sometimes includes a lift or mastopexy. The abdominal procedure may be or include liposuction, but most often is some form of a tummy tuck (abdominoplasty) which will also correct sagging skin that does not retract. Where the patient has had a c-section, the procedure can include treatment of the c-section scar. Another benefit of the combination breast procedure with a tummy tuck, is the breast implants can be inserted through this incision keeping the breasts from having even a minimal scar.
